Organising an international sports trip means much more than simply booking flights and hotels. It means understanding the context, anticipating teams’ needs and creating the best conditions for athletes and staff to focus on the competition.
The return of the MXGP World Championship to South Africa, after twenty years of absence, represented a new organisational challenge. A new destination for many teams, requiring the development of an efficient and reliable travel service.
Planning started before the teams’ arrival
For SEL Travel, the work began around six months before the event.
The first phase focused on studying the destination: analysing the area, identifying the most suitable facilities, evaluating connections and travel times, and selecting the best solutions to ensure simple transfers for teams while keeping essential services nearby.
A crucial preparation phase to manage an international trip with the lowest possible number of unexpected issues.
More than 250 people managed between flights, hotels and local mobility
For the MXGP event in South Africa, SEL Travel coordinated the transfer of more than 250 people, including teams, staff and event personnel, managing:
- international flights and connections;
- hotel bookings and management;
- car rentals and local mobility services;
- assistance before and during the event.
Participants were welcomed in two hotels selected to host an international event, with dedicated check-in services, on-site support staff, buffet and takeaway meal solutions based on team requirements, and 24/7 assistance.
Experience in sports travel management makes the difference
In international motorsport, every detail matters. Teams have specific requirements, tight schedules and operational needs that require accurate and professional management.
SEL’s experience in the sector allows us to understand how teams work, anticipate their needs and provide customised solutions for every trip.
The result is a smoother and more efficient travel logistics management, allowing riders and teams to focus exclusively on the competition.
The behind-the-scenes work behind an international event
When an international trip runs smoothly, much of the work remains invisible.
Behind every organised transfer, every managed request and every planned detail there is a process built on experience, coordination and attention to detail.
This is the value of sports travel management: transforming a complex international operation into a seamless experience for those who take part in the event.
SEL supports teams, organisers and international sporting events with integrated travel management, logistics and operational services.
