The Grand Departure scheduled from Hungary on May 9 will no longer be held and plans for the entire Giro will be reviewed. Due to the spread of the coronavirus, the Hungarian government has declared a state of emergency which prohibits the organization of mass events and makes it impossible to organize international events. Given the national and international situation, RCS Sport, the organizer of the Giro d'Italia, announces that the date of the Giro d'Italia 2020 is postponed.
It is thought to recover the Giro during 2020 to a date yet to be defined. Something more certain will be known not before April 3 when the provisions of the D.P.C.M. of March 4, 2020 will end and after the organization has dealt with the Government, the local and territorial authorities and the Italian and international sports institutions.
Team SEL, who worked closely with RCS Sport since September 2019 to organize the transfer of the Giro caravan from Hungary to Sicily, providing 4 passenger charters and 1 cargo plane, buses and catering for over 700 people and planning the operations in detail, show solidarity with the organizers of the Giro d'Italia in this difficult time and is available right now to support the Giro in the postponement and certainly in 2021.
