Beyond sport: SEL and logistics for the transport of works of art

From sports logistics to the handling of works of art, fine furnishings and design pieces: SEL applies its expertise in organising international transport to projects that require special care and bespoke solutions.

Not all transport operations are the same. Dimensions, weight and destination vary, but above all, so do the characteristics of what needs to be moved.

Alongside logistics for major sporting events – involving the transport of motorbikes, cars and technical, sporting and staging equipment – SEL also manages projects in different fields, such as the handling of works of art and valuable goods.

One example is the recent art transport service for one of our clients in Japan, which required careful organisation taking into account the characteristics and value of the items being moved.

When the value of the cargo makes all the difference

Transporting a work of art means dealing with items that are often unique, characterised by artistic, historical or economic value, and made of materials that require special care.

Unlike traditional logistics, the handling process must be organised with the specific characteristics of each item in mind, from preparation and protection right through to transport and delivery. Security, the integrity of the consignment and the coordination of the various activities become key factors, particularly in international shipments.

From Italy to Japan and back

For this project, SEL organised the international transport, handling customs formalities and documentation, coordinating local operators in both countries, and overseeing the packing, handling and delivery.

Expertise that goes beyond sport

Whilst in sports logistics it is competition timetables, equipment and team coordination that define the priorities, the transport of works of art involves different requirements, linked to the uniqueness, value and fragility of the goods.

In both cases, the starting point is the same: understanding the project’s needs, identifying the most suitable solutions and coordinating every stage of the transport.

From sports pitches and circuits to works of art and design objects, SEL draws on its experience and organisational skills to manage logistics projects that go beyond the more traditional spheres.

Because every transport operation has its own specific characteristics and requires a bespoke solution.
